How did it goes?

Reading practice is very useful to burn hiragana alphabet to your brain. It undeniably hard at the first time, but gradually it will get better!! If this practice seems hard, try it again on the next day until it becomes easy for you to read it 。゚✶ฺ.ヽ(*´∀`*)ノ.✶゚ฺ

  1. Hi, I’m still very new at trying to learn Hiragana so I am confused about reading #13 on this page.
It shows じゃくっと as jakkuto but I thought the romaji for じゃくっと would be jakutto. Is there somewhere that can explain this to me?

    1. There’s nothing wrong with your reading! Thank you for reporting the error, we’ve fixed it 😉 *big hug!*

  2. I am in the Japanese program at Sand Lake elementary school and I wish there was a little more to the story. I like the Japanese program I teaches you something most people know so keep up the grate work make more thank you for the story well hall of the story plz sub my channel Lackyman23. thanknyou if you sub.

    1. Glad you like it! We will post the rest of the story in the future. In the mean time, you could look around the other story here “http://crunchynihongo.com/hiragana-reading-practice/#story”

  3. Very interesting webpage!
    Cheers to you!

Thank you for sharing it, I will see more of this webpage these days while I am learning Japanese!

  4. Seriously, thanks a lot for making this. I am trying to learn Japanese by myself, but always struggle with vocabulary because it’s difficult for me to remember something if I can’t picture the way it’s written in my head and since I don’t want to use Romaji I was struggling a bit. This reading practice is exactly what I needed. Thank you so sooo much.

  5. I’m new at this things, it’s fantastic! But i don’t know why there is some hiragana with bold type. Is that on purpose or something??

    1. The bold hiragana is a particle 😀 We want the reader to notice which kana is particle which might help them for future learning 😀

    2. Those are the particles used in a sentence ….
They have highlighted them so that we don’t confuse with them and we can distinguish between words

  6. I need the compelete story. Your point to point system, I really appreciate it. But please post the complete story of all the folk tales

  7. I’ve been trying to learn Japanese for a while now but I have such a hard time remembering the characters, so this reading is really helping. The story is also interesting, so it’s keeping me focused. Thank you!

  8. I am an ESL teacher who is very willing to learn the language my students speak to break language barrier. I started from the very basic just like a baby. This is perfect for a zero beginner like me. I recommend this site. Suggoi.

    1. That’s a good progress! Since reading and understanding is a different subject to master~ Once you master reading. Try to find the meaning one word at a time. You’ll be able to understand it in no time! Good luck! 😀

  9. Thank you very much this is helpful <3. I had one difficulty: in the last sentence, there is that word "ほぎゃあ", shouldn't it be read as "hogaa"?

  10. Thank you for your hard work! I just started getting back in my studies with Japanese language to keep me busy during quarantine. I’m a bit shy asking 🙈

But is there like a portion here where we can have like a pen pal/study person to converse with and practice speaking/conversing in Japanese?

    1. Don’t be shy for asking! 😀 Unfortunately we don’t have things like that here. But we know an app that you’d like though. The name’s “SLOWLY”. Basically it’s a penpal app you can use to converse with Japanese people while helping them learning your language using virtual letter. You could try it to see if it’s something you’d like 😀 If you’re interseted on practicing listening basic vocabulary, you could use Komorebi Happy learning!

  11. Great site and material to hack your way into reading hiraganas.
I’ve been using the yomi-chan extension (https://foosoft.net/projects/yomichan/) to try to understand what I was reading and it works great. The only caveat is that sometimes you put spaces to separate expressions and it prevent the extension (and then me) to get the right meaning.
An example of that would be 「もどって きなされ」 in the 3rd sentence: there’s a space after 「もどって」 and the extension returns the meaning for 戻る(turn back) when it should return the meaning for 戻って来る (to come back) .

    Otherwise, you guys rock thx

    1. Ah yes, we thought at first it would help first learner to read it easier. Since the focus is just to read the hiragana and not to learn the meaning of the sentence. But thank you for your feedback! 😀

  12. Those stories are really good to practice reading! Are you going to add more? Also are you going to continue the uncompleted ones?

  13. Im 12 years old, i learning hiragana at anime and game when i try to read this story im surprised many hiragana are correct in my speak, so thank you so much now i know how far i can read hiragana. Sorry for bad English im from GMT +7.

  14. I finished learning Hiragana a dew days ago. I’m practicing reading now but I can’t distinguish the separate words! T.T I mean I don’t know where to pause!

    1. Don’t worry! You can keep on practicing while start to learn about vocabulary and particles. By the time you have enough knowledge, you’ll know where to pause instinctively
